![]() ![]() This went against the teachings of the school: “violence must be avoided” and “the sword must only be wielded to achieve peace and to protect one’s own country, family and nature”. Masamitsu Toda was a sword instructor to the Shogun Tokugawa in the mid-19th century, but he resigned because his students were forced to kill fellow Japanese. Masamitsu Toda formed part of this lineage, being the 32nd Soke and the master of Toshitsugu Takamatsu. The school then passed to various members of the Toda clan. The Hattori family guided the school for many years, becoming one of the most important clans in the history of Japan. The secrets of this ryu wer transmitted by many famous ninja of the region, among them Sandaya Momochi. ![]() Masaaki Hatsumi inherited this school, becoming its 34th Soke. ![]() The young man he saved would later become second heir to this tradition, which has now been passed down for over 800 years. It was there he developed the precepts of one of the oldest schools in Bujinkan. After saving the life of a young Shima Kosanta Minamoto No Kanesada, wounded on the battle field, Kagakure Doshi decided to hide in the mountainous Iga region. Daisuke Nishina (later known as Daisuke Togakure), the founder of this school, learnt various warrior arts from his uncle Kagakure Doshi, who servedunder Minamoto Yoshinaka. ![]()
